Special Prize in the "Kielce in Animation" Competition for "KOLORY DWA"

The final gala of the second edition of the national competition "Kielce in Animation", held at the Moskwa cinema in Kielce, brought me a distinction in the form of a Special Prize. My competition entry, titled "Kolory dwa" (Colors Two), was evaluated by a jury chaired by Zbigniew Żmudzki - the Oscar-winning producer of "Peter and the Wolf."

In the statement of the verdict, Mr. Żmudzki emphasized the fully professional level of the production, pointing out the film's potential for participation in international film festivals. This is a crucial confirmation for me of both the technical and artistic quality of this project.

Continuation and Change in Visual Language

The film "KOLORY DWA" is a conceptual continuation of my previous work, "KOLORY", which won first place in the inaugural edition of the competition in 2014. While both films share the theme of an original interpretation of the city, this year's project represents a step toward radical minimalism.

In contrast to the multi-colored first part, the main point of reference for "Kolory dwa" was the work of Piet Mondrian. The adopted geometric rigor allowed for a new deconstruction of characteristic landmarks of Kielce, which in individual scenes were reduced to raw, abstract forms. The composition is based on a precise rhythm of three colors: yellow, black, and red, with the latter being replaced by blue as the narrative progresses. My goal was to depict the city's architecture not in a literal way, but as a dynamic arrangement of planes and lines.

Soundtrack

An essential element completing the artistic vision is the musical score. In the animation, I used a piece by composer Paweł Łukowiec, performed by pianist Marek Mizera. I would like to thank both artists for their permission to use their work – the dynamics of the composition harmonize perfectly with the rhythm of the geometric transformations of the image.
